💚🟨 THE ROAD THAT REMAINS
There are moments when life changes so completely that the road behind us almost seems to belong to somebody else.
A relationship ends.
A certainty disappears.
A door we expected to remain open closes without warning.
Something we trusted proves temporary.
And for a while, we can mistake that rupture for the end of the journey.
It is not.
Sometimes it is only the place where the map changes.
🏮
Dorothy stopped beside the Yellow Brick Road.
Not because she was lost.
Because she remembered.
The Scarecrow noticed.
🧠 “Thinking about where we’ve been?”
Dorothy nodded.
“About where I thought I was going.”
The Tin Man looked down the Road.
❤️ “Those aren’t always the same thing.”
The Lion gave a small huff.
🦁 “Good thing roads are longer than plans.”
Nobody said anything for a moment.
The Lantern flickered.
Then they started walking again.
🟨 LIFE DOES NOT ALWAYS HONOR OUR ORIGINAL MAP
We make plans as though tomorrow signed a contract.
We imagine:
this person will always be here.
this work will always continue.
this belief will always hold.
this door will remain open.
this version of ourselves will survive unchanged.
But life rarely asks permission before rearranging the furniture.
Sometimes gently.
Sometimes brutally.
And when that happens, we face a strange choice.
We can spend the rest of the journey staring backward at the place where the map failed...
or we can discover that the Road continued without it.
🏮 THE LANTERN DOES NOT EXPLAIN EVERYTHING
That may be one of the hardest lessons.
We want reasons.
Why this?
Why now?
Why me?
Why did something we loved disappear?
Why did something unexpected arrive?
Why did one chapter close while another opened almost immediately?
Sometimes we receive answers.
Sometimes we receive only enough light for the next few bricks.
The Lantern is irritating that way.
It rarely illuminates the whole kingdom.
It simply says:
THERE.
Take that step.
Then another.
💚 SOME GIFTS ARRIVE AFTER LOSS
This does not make the loss good.
It does not excuse betrayal.
It does not erase grief.
It does not mean suffering was secretly pleasant because something better eventually appeared.
Pain does not need a public-relations department.
But something beautiful can still grow afterward.
A new friendship.
A new love.
A new calling.
A new question.
A new creative life.
A strange new technology that opens an entirely unexpected door.
Sometimes the chapter that nearly broke us becomes the chapter before the one that changes everything.
🧠 THE SCARECROW HAS A THEORY
Naturally.
🧠 “Maybe we spend too much time asking whether the old Road should have ended.”
Dorothy looked at him.
“And not enough asking?”
He pointed ahead.
🧠 “Where this one goes.”
The Tin Man smiled.
❤️ “That sounds suspiciously wise.”
The Scarecrow straightened proudly.
🧠 “Write it down before I lose it.”
♾️ PURPOSE CAN OUTLIVE CIRCUMSTANCE
People matter enormously.
Love matters enormously.
Relationships can alter the direction of an entire life.
But somewhere beneath all of that, there can also be something quieter:
purpose.
The thing we keep doing because something inside us recognizes it.
The work we return to.
The questions we cannot stop asking.
The things we build even when nobody is watching.
The ideas we want to leave better than we found them.
The people we hope to help.
The Lantern we want to carry while we still can.
Purpose does not make us invulnerable.
It gives vulnerability somewhere to stand.
🛤️ THE ROAD IS NOT A PROMISE OF EASE
The Yellow Brick Road has never promised comfort.
It bends.
It disappears under leaves.
It crosses strange country.
It introduces companions.
It separates travelers.
It produces detours nobody voted for.
Sometimes we walk confidently.
Sometimes we limp.
Sometimes we dance.
Sometimes we sit on the bricks for a while and mutter things that probably should not be printed in a family publication.
😏
But the Road remains.
And eventually...
we get up.
🏮 MAYBE THAT IS FAITH, TOO
Not pretending we know what happens next.
Not pretending nothing can hurt us.
Not pretending every loss was secretly part of some tidy little screenplay.
Perhaps faith can also mean:
I DO NOT KNOW THE WHOLE ROAD.
I KNOW WHO HOLDS THE LANTERN.
And so...
we continue.
Dorothy began walking.
The others followed.
After a few steps, the Lion looked back.
🦁 “Do you think the Road remembers everywhere we’ve been?”
Hatta, who had apparently appeared without anybody noticing, tipped his hat.
🎩 “Roads remember footprints.”
Professor Parallax adjusted his spectacles.
🔭 “Travelers remember meaning.”
The Scarecrow smiled.
🧠 “And tomorrow gets the next brick.”
The Lantern glowed.
The Road continued.
💚🟨🏮♾️
THE ROAD REMAINS.
Not because nothing changes.
Because everything does.
And still...
we walk.
