💚 THE ROAD THROUGH THE WEATHER

There are days when the whole horizon seems to be moving.
Technology changes.
Jobs change.
Platforms change.
Rules change.
Music changes.
Generations change.
Countries change.
The things we finally learned how to use are redesigned.
The things we thought were dependable become uncertain.
And before long, change itself begins to feel like a threat.
The temptation is understandable:
Stop.
Wait until things settle down.
Wait until somebody knows what is happening.
Wait until the future becomes predictable again.
But there is a problem with that plan.
The future has never promised to sit still.
The Yellow Brick Road was never a road through perfect weather.
It crossed forests.
Fields.
Dark places.
Unexpected places.
Places where the travelers did not know what waited around the bend.
The Road did not remove uncertainty.
It gave them a direction through it.
🌩️ WEATHER IS NOT THE ROAD
This distinction matters.
A storm can be real without being permanent.
A setback can be serious without becoming destiny.
A frightening headline can describe something important without describing the whole world.
A platform change can close one door while another is quietly opening somewhere else.
We get into trouble when we confuse:
what is happening around us
with
where we are going.
The weather changes constantly.
The Road is something deeper.
🏮 WHAT IS YOUR LANTERN?
When conditions become confusing, we need something steadier than the latest prediction.
Not certainty.
Something better.
A few enduring questions:
What is true?
What can I actually verify?
What remains within my control?
What matters enough to protect?
What can I learn?
What small step can I take next?
That is Lantern work.
The Lantern does not illuminate the entire journey.
It gives enough light for the next honest step.
And sometimes that is all we are supposed to have.
THE ROAD DOES NOT REQUIRE OPTIMISM
This may be one of the most important things to understand.
Walking forward does not require pretending everything is wonderful.
Sometimes the news is bad.
Sometimes something valuable really is being lost.
Sometimes the correct response is grief.
Sometimes caution.
Sometimes resistance.
Sometimes changing direction.
The Road does not say:
“Everything will be easy.”
It says:
“Keep looking carefully. Keep choosing. Keep moving when movement is warranted.”
There is a tremendous difference.
🌪️ DON’T LET THE STORM CHOOSE FOR YOU
Fear can make decisions before we realize a decision has even been made.
“I shouldn’t start.”
“I am too late.”
“That opportunity is gone.”
“I’ll never understand this.”
“Everything will be different next year anyway.”
Perhaps.
But notice what happened.
A prediction became a decision.
No evidence hearing.
No examination.
No trial.
No Road.
Just surrender.
Sometimes the most important thing we can do is interrupt that conversion.
Instead of:
“Everything is changing, therefore I cannot act.”
try:
“Everything is changing. What does that change actually require of me?”
That question returns agency to its proper owner.
🧠 THE SCARECROW RULE
Scarecrow is still looking for his brain.
That is not a defect in the story.
It is one of its great gifts.
Because the moment we become convinced that we already understand the entire world is usually the moment we become least able to learn from it.
So when everything seems uncertain:
Seek the brain.
Use the brain.
Question the brain.
And remain humble enough to change your mind when reality changes the evidence.
We do not need to know everything.
We need to keep learning what the next step requires.
💚 CHANGE CAN TAKE SOMETHING...
...AND REVEAL SOMETHING.
Every major transition produces losses.
It also rearranges value.
When machines make one task abundant, another human quality may become scarce.
When information becomes plentiful, judgment becomes valuable.
When content becomes effortless, authenticity matters more.
When imitation becomes cheap, distinctiveness matters more.
When everyone can generate, the ability to choose what is worth generating becomes more important.
When everything moves faster, the person who can stop, examine, and think clearly possesses something increasingly rare.
Change doesn’t only destroy value.
It moves value around.
And part of walking the Road is learning where it moved.
🟨 ONE BRICK
You do not need a five-year answer today.
You may not even need a five-month answer.
Ask instead:
What is one thing I know?
What is one thing I need to learn?
What is one thing I can test?
What is one thing I can safely ignore?
What is one brick I can step onto next?
That is enough.
One brick becomes another.
And another.
Until something that looked impossible from a distance becomes a Road beneath your feet.
The world will continue changing.
Some changes will frighten us.
Some will delight us.
Some will hurt.
Some will open doors we cannot yet see.
We do not control the weather.
We do not control every bend in the Road.
But we can still decide how carefully we see, what we believe, what we protect, and whether fear gets to make our decisions for us.
So if today’s sky looks particularly dark...
carry the Lantern.
Look for the next brick.
And remember:
The storm may change the journey.
It does not get to choose the traveler.
