HOME PORT
For days the sails have carried us across the Nonestic.
Through strange islands.
Old kingdoms.
New friends.
Unexpected sovereigns.
Quiet waters.
Hard winds.
And yesterday, even a whale king who was most certainly not King Anko.
The sea has a sense of humor.
Today, on the final day of September, the four ships turn toward Loland.
Home port.
⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵
Not because the voyage is over.
Because every good voyage needs a harbor.
A place to repair the rigging.
Restock the galley.
Spread charts across a table.
Tell the stories that grew larger in the telling.
And decide where the next wind should carry us.
WE HAVE BEEN TRAVELING.
But October will ask something different of us.
Not merely:
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
But:
WHAT HAPPENED THERE?
For months the Flotilla has crossed the map.
October becomes Storytime.
We will stay longer.
Listen closer.
Follow characters into trouble.
Discover motives.
Meet dangers that cannot be summarized on a signpost.
Some destinations may hold us for several days.
Some stories may lead beneath the sea.
Others into castles, forests, harbors, hidden passages, old quarrels and new alliances.
The map remains important.
But now the stories begin to breathe.
HOME IS PART OF THE JOURNEY
We sometimes imagine progress as constant motion.
Forward.
Faster.
Next.
But ships that never return to harbor eventually become wrecks.
So today there is no shame in lowering sail.
No failure in tying a line to the dock.
No lost momentum in sitting beside familiar faces and remembering why we sailed in the first place.
Rest is not the opposite of progress.
Preparation is not delay.
Homecoming is not retreat.
Sometimes the strongest thing an adventurer can do...
is return home long enough to remember what the adventure is for.
LOLAND AWAITS
The harbor lights appear.
One by one.
Then dozens.
The first ropes are thrown.
Boots hit the quay.
Cargo begins coming ashore.
Maps are carried inside.
Someone has already found something to eat.
Someone else is undoubtedly asking who ate the strawberries.
We shall not name names.
🐾🍓
And somewhere inside the harbor office, October’s charts are waiting.
Thirty-one blank squares.
Thirty-one invitations.
Thirty-one chances to discover that the road ahead may not be a road at all.
It may be an ocean.
A tunnel.
A palace.
A forest.
A forgotten book.
Or the beginning of a story nobody has told before.
THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD DOES NOT END AT THE DOCK.
Sometimes...
IT SETS SAIL.
